Saga Prefecture

Yoshinogari Ruins

Located in Kanzaki City, the ruins are best known as a Yayoi site, with materials dating to 250 BC to AD 250. Some structures date to the Final Jomon period, so the site is also of interest for understanding the Jomon to Yayoi transition (see a 1999 review of Yayoi News and Articles).

The reconstructed site is now displayed as a 40 ha national historic park, where visitors can see unearthed artifacts and videotaped excavation scenes. See also Japan Information Network, and Outline of Prefecture. Access: Take Nagasaki Honsen line from the JR Saga station to Yoshinogari Kouen station (a short ride), or a Showa bus from Saga Station Bus Center to Yoshinogari stop (about 35 mins). ANA link above (title) offers a short site video.
