Aragi Island - geomorphological note

Scenic mountain village and fields on a river terrace that is part of a river island that formed before the Jomon Period. Terrace was developed for rice production during the early Edo Era (1603 - 1867). This looks like a good location for Jomon settlement. Enquiries are pending (link above shows photo).

Iwade Town

Jomon ruins have been found in this town. Access details not known (website currently J only), but the town is easily reached, lying on the lower reaches of the Kino River, shortly upstream of Wakayama City. To contact town office: Tel. (0736) 62-2141, fax (0736) 63-5229.

Kozanji burial mound

Jomon burial mound in the grounds of Kozanji Temple (itself is about 1200 years old) in Tanabe City.
