Sannai Maruyama Site, Aomori City

Sannai Maruyama in Aomori City is possibly the best known and most accessible of Jomon sites in Japan. It is located on a headland overlooking what used to be a shallow bay, but what is now a wide plain occupied by Aomori city. Huge quantities of pottery and organic remains have been found here, and many materials are displayed in an onsite museum.

Use the link above for access details (address, access, guides, events, etc.). Materials from the site will soon be displayed in the new Aomori Museum of Art (Opens July 13th 2006).
