Hijiridaki Cave

English language version of an important re-examination of a controversial site: "Excavation at Hijiridaki Cave, Oita Prefecture, Japan". Hijiridaki Cave (Honjo Village, Oita Prefecture) was first excavated in the early 1960s. It is suggested that a mixture of Late Palaeolithic to late Jomon stone artefacts were redeposited at what is now thought to be a Medieval burial place. A good example of responsible archaeological revision.
