Osaka Museum of History

A large modern museum located immediately next to Osaka Castle, in what is better known locally as the NHK building. The Museum offers great landscape views from various windows in the exhibition floors. A very small display of Jomon materials in the permanent exhibition (2006), but temporary exhibitions such as the 'Recent Historical Discoveries in Osaka' may show Jomon materials from time to time. Access: the museum is easily reached by two different subway lines, and is close to the JR Osaka loop line.

Osaka Municipal Natural Historical Museum

The Osaka Municipal Natural Historical Museum is located in Nagai Park, near Osaka Bay and the centre of Osaka City, in Higashi-sumiyoshi-ku. Can be reached by train (subway Midosuji Line) to a station about 500m to the east of the museum.

Osaka Prefectural Museum of Yayoi Culture

A beautiful display of materials from the Ikegami Sone Site, spanning the Late Jomon - Early Yayoi transitional period. Access: Osaka 594-0083, 443 Ikegami-cho, Izumi City, Osaka. Tel. (0725) 46-2162. Fax (0725) 46-2165. Train: JR Hanwa Line Get off at Shinodayama Sta. and walk for 7 min. Nankai Main Line Get off at Matsunohama Sta. and walk for 20 min.
